Most skills training in the home service industry involves hands-on elements, theory, and/or performing tasks in virtual reality; but nothing beats working with your hands and learning-by-doing. It’s one thing to learn technical skills in the field as opportunities present themselves; it’s quite another to teach numerous technicians the same skill in a specific time window. A safe, nurturing environment to practice skills is the best way to train your team.

And when your team is able to gain new skills, you expand their confidence, strength and capabilities. However, in an ever evolving world with a tight trades labor force, there are challenges. For example, there is no shortage of things technicians can learn and a myriad of equipment to choose from. And, defining a starting point for training, let alone creating a training space, can be overwhelming. Helping our Nexstar members address these challenges head on, NexTech Academy recently created a resourceful Workforce Development e-Guide (available exclusively to members) that outlines the elements to consider during the planning, development, and creation of a training space. Then, the NexTech team interviewed several member owners who worked closely with their Nexstar Workforce Development Coach to launch their own academies. Their investment has helped to build a brighter future for their technicians and strengthen their workforce development needs to serve their businesses and ultimately their communities. Watch this video that highlights the individual stories of five leaders in the PHCE home services trades and the benefits they realized when they went all-in to build a training academy at their shops. If you are a Nexstar member and have questions about creating your own onsite training academy, please reach us at info@nextechacademy.com.
